Account Manager – Public Sector Plus

We are seeking a sophisticated sales professional to lead our “Public Sector Plus” initiative. This role focuses on State, Local, and Education (SLED) entities, utilizing specialized contracts and cooperative purchasing organizations to streamline procurement.  Beyond the public sector, you will leverage these procurement synergies to disrupt the Hospitality vertical. Rather than relying on third-party Group Purchasing Organizations (GPOs), you will position Merchants’ full-service model as a personal, high-confidence procurement alternative.

Responsibilities: 

  • Account Management: Manage and grow Public Sector Plus & Hospitality M&Co accounts
  • Strategic Procurement: Navigate and position complex contracts (e.g., State of Colorado) as a competitive advantage to ensure seamless client outcomes
  • Disruptive Hospitality Strategy: Compete directly with GPOs by delivering the efficiency, accuracy, and transparency of a purchasing organization with superior service 
  • Profitability Optimization: Identify creative ways to diversify product and service offerings, increasing project scope and profitability within the constraints of contract-based margins
  • Consultative Leadership: Manage the full sales lifecycle, providing expert guidance on budget, schedule, product mix, and mitigation of any unexpected risks; model the high standards of accountability you expect from the project team
  • Relationship Management: Cultivate a high-level network of vertical influencers (developers, architects, cooperative purchasing organizations, etc. through intentional outreach
  • Team Integration & Alignment: Partner with internal delivery teams to leverage individual strengths and technical proficiencies; act as the primary steward of the project’s success by holding the collective crew accountable to rigorous timelines and performance benchmarks.

Requirements:

  • Experience: Minimum of 5 years of sales experience, specifically navigating complex procurement
  • Network: An established network within participating public organizations and/or the hospitality and development industry
  • Attributes: A “natural host” mentality combined with precision and speed; professional poise and “gritty” resourcefulness

Compensation:  

  • 401(k) and healthcare in benefits package (available upon request)
  • Guaranteed annual commission range of $75,000-$85,000, plus a highly competitive, unlimited commission structure

  • Two showrooms in Denver
  • Showroom in Colorado Springs
  • Sales resources in Northern Colorado
  • 26,000 sq. ft. warehouse in Denver
